Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge

There are plenty of outdoors to explore and see in Bloomington. With the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge less than a mile away, and the Minnehaha Falls about a ten minute drive from the hotel, the possibilities to explore all of the trails Minneapolis has to offer are endless. Care to take a walk or jog on one of the many walking trails the refuge contains? Take the whole family and head out on a morning hike, before checking out over 2,000 animals at the Minnesota Zoo, near St. Paul. Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge was established in 1976 to provide habitat for a large number of migratory waterfowl, fish, and other wildlife species threatened by commercial and industrial development, and to provide environmental education, wildlife recreational opportunities, and interpretive programming for Twin Cities residents.


Historic Fort Snelling

Built in the early 1820’s, Historic Fort Snelling is a great place to learn about military history from before the Civil War through World War II, fur trade history, slavery in Minnesota, the U.S.-Dakota War of 1862 and much more. Its location- at the junction of the Minnesota and Mississippi Rivers-Has been significant for centuries to many American Indian communities.


Minnehaha Falls

This 193-acre park showcases a 53-foot waterfall, limestone bluffs and the Mississippi River. Reach the park at the intersection of Hiawatha Avenue and Minnehaha Parkway in Minneapolis. Light rail available. The Falls and their environs are listed on the National Register of historic places.


Minnesota Zoo and Imax Theatre

Boasting 2,300 animals on 500 acres, Minnesota Zoo is located in Apple Valley, near Minneapolis and St. Paul.

Discover nature’s bounty and beauty in the wild kingdom at Como Park Zoo & Conservatory.  Admission is free, but donations are appreciated. Open daily, including holidays.
